A still lake

The lake “Kvennsetvatnet” is located on a mountain plain between the Eresfjord and the Sunndalsfjord, at an altitude of 627 m. On a mountain hike to “Blåfjellet” I passed this lake around 11.00. No wind, not a single sound could be heard. The lake lay still in front of me and invited me to take a little break. At a beautiful spot by the lake, I pulled the camera out of my pocket to capture this moment…

Aperture f/13, exposure 1/40, ISO 50, focal length 17 mm, polarizing filter

I made a black and white picture out of this photo because the colors were completely unimportant at that moment. The stillness and the vastness of the landscape is better shown in black and white in this shot, I would say.

  1. There are few places in this world where you can see such images, total tranquility, far away from humanity and in the middle of a wild and untouched nature. Beautiful photo Dirk.

    1. Thanks for your comment. I was also very touched by the tranquility of the lake. That’s exactly why I took the picture there at that moment.

  2. These lakes in Norway have something of Avalon, I find. We were one year up on the højfjellet near Hemsedalen where there was such a lake, not as big as “yours” though. The scene became completely mystic when there was rising fog from the water.

    1. That’s right, there are such lakes all over Norway. I’ve never been to Hemsedal. I should go there 🙂

      1. It is very touristy in winter, skiing … we were there in October and were lucky to have a warm two weeks. But, of course, one can take so wonderful trips.
