We have already noticed this fence on a previous tour to the islands “Ona” and “Husøya”, I really do not know why I like it, probably because of the mixture of stones from the walls, the cemetery with its bell tower in the background, the lush green grass and the evening light.
This place can be found on the island “Husøya”. The cemetery is not old. In 1919 it was built and inaugurated.
Over the years it has been carefully serviced and kept in operation by the islanders. It was not until 1955 that the bell tower was built, at the same time the wall around the cemetery was also built.
The picture shows the gate at the back of the cemetery. Especially nice: the small crosses on the door. On the whole island you will for sure find multiple nice photo opportunities everywhere.

13 Dec 2022The gate is quite beautiful, from what I can tell it’s hand made, as is the wonderful stone fence around the cemetery. For an American something 100 years old is old because we don’t have the experience of things being thousands of years old. I’m always amazed when I watch documentaries that include structures that were built thousands of years ago, I get a feeling of safety and being a part of history for those who visit or live in them.
